Last year we had a 17 year old patient who was an honor role student and a dancer who presented as a patient with moderate scoliosis, sciatica, unexplained left arm swelling, severe headaches and a problem with a fainting for over a year. Through the course of a year she had been to a cardiologist, a pulmonologist, a neurologist, a pain management doctor and a psychiatrist. Nothing alleviated her symptoms and she was summarily diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. In fact, these specialists had prescribed this 17 year old (110 lb. female) with medications to increase her blood pressure which then caused them to put her on medications for high blood pressure. She was also put on Neurotin and a host of medications for anxiety and depression. She was so drugged up that her mother had to help her get dressed for school in the morning. By mid-day her mother would have to come and pick her up due to severe pain.
Chiropractic care became these parents last ditch effort to get their daughter well. They were uncertain she would be able to attend college the following year due to all of her physical ailments and limitations. After about 2 weeks of chiropractic care the unexplained arm swelling dissipated and the headaches were gone. In the weeks that followed so did the overall muscle and joint aches, as well as the sciatica. Within 2 months all symptoms were gone and she had been taken off of ALL medications by her specialists. I am happy to say that this patient is now in college, joined a sorority and is on the Dean’s List. I referred her to a chiropractor in Alabama where she goes to school so she can keep up with her monthly adjustments and I see her for a “tune up” when she is back in town.
